How do I care for my handmade functional wares?

Daily use,

Each Hannah’s Clay Creations piece is made to be used, and these babies can last forever if cared for properly. At the end of the day though they are ceramic, which means they can be broken if dropped, bumped, exposed to extreme temperatures, etc.

When it comes to putting pieces in the dishwasher, I say do at your own risk. Some appliances are rougher/ hotter than others and can damage handmade wares. For the safest results, I recommend hand washing your pottery pieces.

Avoid exposing your handmade wares to extreme temperatures such as placing them in the freezer or oven, as this could result in thermal shock and result in breakage. Also, for example, if you have a cold mug try to avoid pouring boiling water into it right away. This could also result in thermal shock. (This is good practice for wares that aren’t handmade as well).

“Is the microwave safe?” Again, I say do at your own risk. I personally throw my mugs in the microwave almost daily to heat up cold coffee or tea and have never run into an issue. A minute or two should be safe, but I wouldn’t recommend much longer than that.

I make all my ceramic wares to be used, but I still see them as being small pieces of art. A lot of care and thought is put into each piece. From mixing the clay, designing the work, throwing on the wheel, hand decorating, to sanding the bottoms. If handled with care, your pottery can live with you for many happy years!

Disclaimer: Once you purchase a piece I am no longer responsible for any damages. If you have any more questions about care, please feel free to message me! I want you to love your handmade pottery and have it for a very long time!
